Pest Control : Willow Leaf Beetle

Description:

  • larvae - 10mm long, black head & legs, white body with black spots, middle of abdomen is swollen
  • beetle - small, brown or yellowish, or metallic green or blue

What it Attacks:

  • willow trees & sometimes poplar

Damage:

  • larvae skeletonize lower leaf surface
  • later eat whole leaf minus main vein
  • cicular holes in leaf
  • leaves may turn brown & die

Prevention/Control:

  • rake up & destroy leaf litter in the fall
  • safers soap

Insect Seen When:

  • wild mustard is in full bloom
