Services : Cabling / Bracing
  • There are different situations where cabling and bracing are necessary to save a tree and/or protect what’s under it.

  • Cables are placed in a tree with 2 or more stems that have poor crotch structure (“V” Shaped) and are at risk of splitting or breaking. The Cable is placed by an arborist 2/3 of the way up the tree from the crotch of concern. The cables job is to allow the two stems to flow as one instead of being able to move in opposite directions when wind is blowing which may cause the crotch to split.

  • Another measure to ensure the safety of a tree is by the use of a bolt. The bolt has a couple of applications. If a weak “V” shaped crotch needs to be held together a hole can be drilled through the tree and a bolt placed to pinch it together, this is usually accompanied by a cable placement. If the tree or branch in question is split and deemed repairable by an arborist it can be bolted together to help close the split and allow healing. • There are different situations where cabling and bracing are necessary to save a tree and/or protect what’s under it.
